How Much Does It Cost to Build a Prediction Market App in 2026?

Ask five vendors what a prediction market app costs and you will get five answers between $15,000 and $2 million. They are not all wrong. They are pricing very different products.

This guide breaks down what you are actually paying for, the published 2026 ranges, the costs that usually get left out of the first quote, and how to scope a version that can launch on a sensible budget.

Most published estimates come from vendors who sell these builds, including us. Treat every number here as a range to plan around, not a price.

The short answer

What you are buildingTypical 2026 rangeTime to launch
Proof of concept$15,000 to $50,0004 to 8 weeks
MVP with one market type$25,000 to $150,0008 to 12 weeks
Full custom platform$150,000 to $500,000+6 to 18 months
Regulated institutional exchange$900,000 to $2.5 million+12 months+
White-label software (rented)$2,000 to $10,000 per month4 to 8 weeks

Ranges compiled from ChainUp, GoodFirms and Shift Markets (see sources). Where your build lands depends mostly on the five factors below.

What drives the cost

1. Real money or free-to-play

This is the biggest single factor. A free-to-play app with points and leaderboards has no wallet, no payment rails, no KYC and no licence. A real-money app needs all of those, plus audit trails and reconciliation that hold up to a regulator. Free-to-play builds typically cost a fraction of a real-money platform.

2. Order book or market maker

A central limit order book (the model Kalshi and Polymarket use) needs a matching engine that is fast, fair and never double-fills an order. An automated market maker such as LMSR is simpler to build, but you need to fund and manage the platform's risk. Building both costs more than either one.

3. Fiat, crypto or both

Fiat means payment gateways, bank payouts and chargeback handling. Crypto means wallet integration, smart contracts and a security audit, which Shift Markets puts at $10,000 to $30,000 on its own. Doing both roughly doubles the payments work.

4. How markets are resolved

Manual resolution by an admin is cheap to build but costs staff time forever. Automated resolution from sports, price or weather data feeds costs more up front, plus data subscriptions, and scales much better.

5. Platforms and polish

Web only is cheapest. Native iOS and Android apps, plus app store review for a trading product, add significant time. Cross-platform frameworks like React Native or Flutter help keep this down.

The hidden costs most quotes leave out

The development quote is rarely the whole bill. ChainUp estimates that liquidity, audits, legal review and settlement operations can add two to three times the base development cost before launch. Budget for:

  • Legal and licensing. Often the largest cost for a real-money platform, and it varies hugely by country.
  • Liquidity. Empty order books kill new platforms. You will likely need to fund a market maker or run one yourself at launch.
  • KYC and data feeds. Identity checks are charged per verification, and sports and financial data feeds are monthly subscriptions.
  • Security. Penetration testing for any platform, and smart contract audits if you go on-chain.
  • Infrastructure for spikes. Big events bring traffic spikes, and you pay for capacity to handle them.
  • Maintenance. ChainUp estimates 15% to 25% of the build cost every year.

White-label is a good way to test demand. The trade-off is ongoing fees and limited room to differentiate. Cheap clone scripts look attractive, but the ledger and matching engine are where they usually cut corners, and those are the parts you cannot afford to get wrong. A custom build costs more up front but you own the product and every rupee or dollar of margin.

A middle path many founders take: build a focused custom MVP on one market type, prove engagement, then expand.

How to keep your first version lean

  • Launch one category first. Cricket or crypto prices, not twenty categories.
  • Start with manual resolution. Automate once you know which markets get volume.
  • Go web plus one mobile platform. Add the second app after launch.
  • Use proven providers for KYC, payments and data rather than building your own.
  • Do not skimp on the ledger. It is the one part that is far more expensive to fix later.

Where you build changes the price

Senior developers in India typically cost $30 to $60 per hour, compared with US agency rates that are often several times higher. For an engineering-heavy product like a prediction market, the team's location is one of the biggest levers on the total budget. The key is choosing a team that has built ledgers and real-time systems before, not just apps.

How WebAziz helps

We build prediction market and opinion trading platforms from a senior team in India. That includes the matching engine, wallet and ledger, KYC, settlement and native apps, or free-to-play versions where real-money play is restricted. After a 30-minute scoping call you get a fixed-price quote, and you own all of the code.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to build an app like Kalshi or Polymarket?

A focused MVP typically costs $25,000 to $150,000 depending on features and where the team is based. A full custom platform usually runs $150,000 to $500,000 or more, and a regulated institutional-grade exchange can pass $2 million.

What is the cheapest way to launch a prediction market?

A free-to-play app with points instead of money is the cheapest, since it needs no wallet, KYC or licence. For real money, renting white-label software is cheapest to start, though monthly fees add up over time.

How long does it take to build a prediction market app?

A proof of concept takes about 4 to 8 weeks and a focused MVP about 8 to 12 weeks. A full custom platform takes 6 months or more.

What costs are not included in a development quote?

Licensing and legal fees, liquidity, KYC charges, data feeds, security audits, infrastructure for traffic spikes and ongoing maintenance. Together they can add two to three times the development cost before launch.

Is a clone script good enough?

For a demo, maybe. For real money, be careful. Clone scripts often cut corners on the ledger and matching engine, which are the parts that have to be right when users' money is involved.
